The presentation was entitled, “Psycho-Social Aspects of Language Brokering,” and focused on the psychological sequelae that children within immigrant families experience as a result of being used as translators and interpreters by parents.

April 17, 2009 Odyssey Magazine, the award winning publication of Clarke Central High School, interviewed Dr. Kip Matthews on the phenomenon of "sexting" among teenagers. The magazine piece focused on teens' choices to engage in "sexting" and the negative consequences of this behavior. Particular emphasis was placed on how to best address this issue.

Dr. Londoño-McConnell was one of this year’s presenters at the ¡Si se puede! Conference 2009. The conference brings together rising ninth to twelfth graders from schools all across Georgia. These youth and their parents are exposed to information concerning higher education opportunities and the steps necessary to pursue higher education degree. Dr. Londoño-McConnell’s presentation was entitled La Universidad: Parents as Partners on the Road to Success!

Latin American & Caribbean Studies Institute at the University of Georgia invited Dr. Londoño-McConnell to be part of their speakers to middle-school Latino/a students at Colie Middle High School in Athens, GA. The program series was focused on affirming Hispanic cultural pride and identity as a way to encourage young Latino/as to stay in school and attend college. Dr. Londoño-McConnell provided an interactive experiencing emphasizing positive self-esteem & bi-cultural identity pride.

The Atlanta International School invited Dr. J. Kip Matthews to present to the parents on the topic of bullying among school-aged children. During this workshop, he contrasted bullying from other relationship issues such as teasing and other forms of conflict. The goal of the program was to help parents of both bullies and bully-victims to become more empowered to effectively intervene to help their child.
March 1, 2009 Athens Area Parent magazine interviewed Dr. Kip Matthews for the piece, "Managing Stress During Financial Woes." He provided helpful tips and strategies for families to successfully manage their stresses during economically difficult times. The article appeared in the March/April 2009 issue.

This event provided Piedmont College students with health-related information and contact with area healthcare providers. We enjoyed our visit and the opportunity to meet with the wonderful faculty/staff and students.
February 21, March 20, and April 18, 2009 Dr. Kip Matthews presented a series of workshops to the managers and coaches of the Athens American-National Little League. The focus of these presentations was on helping coaching staff to make youth athletes' sport participation a positive experience and in helping coaches become more effective on the playing field.
January 30, 2009 Dr. Kip Matthews was the special guest on the radio show, "Speaking With Carl Thornton" which was broadcast live on WTBH 1550 AM in Augusta. As the Super Bowl approached, Dr. Matthews was interviewed about sport psychology and performance enhancement. Special guests included local football players and coach and some attention was paid to youth sport participation.

October 7, 2008 On this day, the American Psychological Association released their annual Stress in America survey results. It was a major media campaign nation-wide, with an emphasis on particular cities around the country, including Atlanta. The release of the results coincided with the Wall Street crisis, which made the survey time and relevant for the public.
