Life can present challenging moments, such as difficulties in relationships, a transition in or a search for a career path, or difficulty managing increased stress. Sometimes these challenges are ones that lead to personal self-reflection and growth. Other times, challenges can leave a person feeling "stuck" or not knowing how to cope. Counseling can be very helpful to individuals who find themselves unable to cope with life's challenges and feeling unable to resolve those problems and challenges on their own. Counseling can also be beneficial for persons in helping to resolve moments when more serious challenges arise, such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, or facing conflictual relationships.

At AK Counseling & Consulting, we provide a range of mental health counseling and psychological services. Our licensed psychologists have over 35 years of experience in helping people identify and problem-solve their way through the issues and concerns of everyday life. We assist individuals in addressing, coping with, and resolving feelings of depression, anxiety, grief and loss that arise from serious life events. By taking a holistic, multicultural approach to counseling that values wellness and personal empowerment, our psychologists strive to create a collaborative client-therapist relationship that assists clients in a deeper understanding of their concerns and how best to manage and resolve their issues for themselves.

Types of Counseling and Therapy

The psychologists at AK Counseling & Consulting offer different types of counseling and therapy that are best suited to the needs of each person. Individual counseling is available for persons seeking a one-to-one counseling relationship with a psychologist to address and help assist them in resolving their presenting concerns. Couples counseling is available to couples/partners experiencing difficulties in their relationship that affect the quality of their connection or for those who simply wish to further enhance their relationship. Group counseling is available and is oftentimes beneficial to individuals who wish to share their difficulties with others who experience the same or similar concerns and to receive the helpful support of others. An individual consultation appointment can help you decide which option is best for you.

Confidentiality

Psychologists at AK Counseling & Consulting adhere to strict standards of confidentiality of client records and contacts as outlined by the American Psychological Association and the Rules and Regulations of the State of Georgia. Information provided to us by clients is strictly confidential except in cases where there is an imminent life threatening situation, situations of suspected abuse/neglect of children or elders, or when release of records is required by law. In addition, our services are compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

In 2003, the U.S. Congress passed federal privacy standards intended to protect the privacy of patients' medical records and other health information supplied to health care providers and insurance companies. Known as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), these newly developed standards provide patients with greater control over the ways in which their health information is disclosed and/or shared to health care providers or insurance companies.
